I am currently a student in my last year and semester of college, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, and I will be graduating in November of 2022. I have worked as an intern at Courtyard Marriott Kingston, Jamaica in four different departments, namely the Loss Prevention, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping and Engineering department. In the Loss Prevention department, I was able to work with the head of security, and that included me watching the cameras that were on site for anything out of the ordinary, patrolling the hotel grounds with my supervisor, handing out associates key cards when they arrived at work and ensuring they signed for it and logging lost and found items in the computer. In the Food and Beverage department, I worked as a server, and I was responsible for taking guest orders, serving guests their food and drinks, cleaning silverware and cleaning and setting tables. Working in the Housekeeping department, my main activity was cleaning guest rooms, which included making guest beds, dusting down the furniture, cleaning and disposing of the garbage, vacuuming the carpets and I also worked in the laundry area of that department, where I collected the dirty laundry from the rooms and separated them for washing and I was also tasked with ironing pillowcases. The final department I worked in was the Engineering Department, where I would ensure that all the maintenance operations within the hotel were as they should be. This included checking the doors, lights, air-conditioning filters in the guests' rooms and meters in and outside the building. I was also able to help fix items in the rooms that needed to be fixed. In the summer of 2021, I was able to work as an intern at Lillian's Restaurant, which is a restaurant on my college campus. I worked in the office calculating food prices for items on many different requisitions, which allowed me to calculate the prices for different items on the restaurant’s menu. I also worked in the kitchen as a vegetable prep cook, and I was tasked with plating dishes. My interest lies in preparing baked goods, as I have done a few courses in college which focuses on that specific area, and I have found that I enjoy baking, and I seek to develop my passion for it. I am eager to learn and sharpen my skills in this area as I do believe that working with pastry is a job I can see myself excelling in.
